2012 XC60 ELECTRIC TAIL GATE PROBLEMS - Can i replace..?
Hi Guys,
Feel embarrassed asking again. This car has caused me no end of grief. in last 6 months or so spend £1550 on CEM, £170 on DEM (Was quoted £1000+ by the CEM chap), then Blower motor relay Fused another £100 or so. TODAY: OPENING: Electric Tail Gate: When i press the fob or button it unlocks and starts to open but then closes. Sometimes it will open and then halfway stop as it its hit something. If i manaully "assist" it then it s fine. CLOSING: Same, closes then seems to stall and then open up a bit. if i manually "assist" it then it'll go all the way. MY IMPRESSION: I suspect one of the motors is faulty or dying/dead. This means the other is working against too much resistance. So whilst it does work a bit when it hits that critical resistance the more stops for safety. I have tried WD40, motor reset etc. etc. MY QUESTIONS: Rather than having to fork another £250-£500+ for this can i replace them with Gas struts. I have read a few places where i can, but they do not seem to give me enough info on WHAT TYPE OF STRUTS to buy or where from. Any ideas from anyone? Thanks. |

Just to add the pauses i know are the pinch protection, which i think come into play as i suspects one of the struts are not working.

Try SGS in Derby. They sell all sorts of stuff but stated out just making gas struts.

I'm by no means an expert and could be way off the mark but have you checked that the height limiter isn't set or configured correctly?
I've heard of not fully opening tailgates being sorted by re-doing the maximum height/opening learning procedure.
