Default Volvo On Call / Mini Sim?

Hi all, I’m about to a buy a used (69) V90 Inscription Plus D5 AWD. For it to connect to the internet without using my iPhone as a Bluetooth hotspot, will I need to purchase my own SIM card for it or does it come with one? I’ve had a quick look around and can’t find a definitive answer on this. Also, are there any advantages of the car having its own sim as opposed to using a phone for internet connectivity? Many thanks, Dave.

Hi Dave
To the best of my knowledge ( and not a definitive answer) Sensus allows you to either connect via your phone OR connect through the inbuilt modem.
You will need to provide your own SIM card if you decide to use the inbuilt modem but there are some good deals around. Data allowance weighted would be preferable as you would only be using it for data not calls/texts.
Not sure where the SIM card holder is on the V90 ( someone on here will be able to help), but on my XC60, it is VERY easy to drop the SIM card down inside / under the carpets, so if it is the same on a V90 you need to use caution.
The only advantage that I could come up with when I did mine, was that getting a SIM card from a different provider, would allow you the option of using whichever gave you the best signal at the time that you needed it.
Hope this helps.
Rob

You put "Volvo on Call" in the title. As I understand it, and I don't understand much about all this modern technology, the SIM for that is seperate to any SIM you might add for your own use.

2019 Vodafone gave away 100GB for 12 months with each new Volvo - ask the dealer they might be able to activate it for you. Otherwise I use the 3data 24GB "internet with legs" it varies from £25-40 on amazon and lasts unto 2 years. I get through one of these each year using it for traffic, apps and spotify.

Thanks for replies. Got the car now and have figured it all out - you get Volvo on call for 3 years, the SIM for a year after which you can change to a network provider of your choice. Was sad to see the V60 go - that was a great car. Hope she serves her next owner as well.
