Default Xc90 starting issues

Hi guys, I have a 2009 xc90 d5. Every 4th or 5th time I use the car, sometimes a couple of days between uses, it won't start 1st time. It try's to turn over and makes all the right noises but just won't fire up regardless of how long I leave the key turned or pump the accelerator. However, it always starts the second time without fail. Any ideas? Was thinking an imobiliser issue.

Only recently (last few weeks) been doing it. Wanted to get some advice first before taking to a garage in case they try to rip me off. Can I assume VIDA is some kind of diagnostic computer?

Mine often does this if it has had a week or two of short journeys or has been standing for some time: I have always assumed that the battery voltage is low, causing slow cranking. It never fails to start but, as you say, it can take 2 attempts.
After a few days of longer runs or an overnight battery charge, the problem always disappears.

VIDA is the Volvo diagnostic software, which is the best means of diagnosing such a problem

Universal code readers often do not provide enough detail to read all the stored fault codes and their associated logged data, which is why VIDA is recommended in this case...

Thanks guys I'll see how it goes, not overly concerned tbh as it does allways start second time round if not the first. Was just curious as to wether anyone else had come across this.

Have you checked there's been no recalls on your car. There have been a few issues reported about fuel leaks etc a while back now, worth checking in case your getting any air in the system. Plus helps rule out anything along them lines.
I did my v70 online the other week, luckily I'm up to date with everything.

Its simple to do online and free.
