My 24 year old landrover with 200+ k on its engine passes the fast test for emissions. The mot station I use is 20 mile drive away, before entering the garage I floor the throttle to clear the system.

The emissions are checked after the car has been inspected and the oil temp is always checked to ensure it is 80oC. The sniffer is put up the exhaust and the test carried out. Result, fast test passed with plenty of margin.

Maintain the vehicle properly with regular oil and filter changes and there should be no problem.

My Volvo is left overnight at the dealer's for mot, again emissions past on the fast test no problem with a healthy margin. I assume they leave it ticking over to get the oil to 80oC to perform the test as there is never more than 2 miles extra on the clock when I pick it up.

Another media scare story in my view. If either of my cars failed the emissions test would want to find the reason why as something is not as it should be.
Paul.

It will stop any scaremongering from the various media sources ( daily Fail & jeremy Whine spring to mind ). Also all this rubbish about diesel , heres an extract from a special notice ( Fact not fiction )

2.2 What you need to know

The amended limits to be applied from 20 May 2018 are:
1. First used before July 2008 None turbo 2.5m-1 or plate value if lower
Turbo 3.0m-1 or plate value if lower
2. First used on or after 1 July 2008 All diesels 1.5m-1 or plate value if lower
3. First used on or after 1 January 2014 All diesels 0.7m-1 or plate value if lower

The only REAL difference is for engine from Jan 2014 onwards . I have been checking for these plate values since the notice was issued & not had anything to concern me yet
This ^^^

My '90 740 turbodiesel, which is mechanical injection and has no exhaust treatment (as standard) managed 0.66m-1 on the last MOT - so can pass the Jan 2014 onward vehicle limits - these vehicles being Euro 6 should easily be well below that of a 28 year old car!

It's worth noting a vehicle data plate can never have a number below 0.5m-1.
