My 24 year old landrover with 200+ k on its engine passes the fast test for emissions. The mot station I use is 20 mile drive away, before entering the garage I floor the throttle to clear the system.
The emissions are checked after the car has been inspected and the oil temp is always checked to ensure it is 80oC. The sniffer is put up the exhaust and the test carried out. Result, fast test passed with plenty of margin. Maintain the vehicle properly with regular oil and filter changes and there should be no problem. My Volvo is left overnight at the dealer's for mot, again emissions past on the fast test no problem with a healthy margin. I assume they leave it ticking over to get the oil to 80oC to perform the test as there is never more than 2 miles extra on the clock when I pick it up. Another media scare story in my view. If either of my cars failed the emissions test would want to find the reason why as something is not as it should be. Paul. |

My '90 740 turbodiesel, which is mechanical injection and has no exhaust treatment (as standard) managed 0.66m-1 on the last MOT - so can pass the Jan 2014 onward vehicle limits - these vehicles being Euro 6 should easily be well below that of a 28 year old car! It's worth noting a vehicle data plate can never have a number below 0.5m-1. Last edited by tofufi; Feb 20th, 2018 at 15:46. |
