Unhappy XC70 2014 radio won't shut off after travel news

Hi, wonder if anyone can help me? I have read the manual that came with my 2014 XC70 and it is no use at all...

I'll try to explain what happens as best as I can...

I like the travel news to come on as I am travelling around. This is all fine and good until someone decides to use the radio. Once the radio has been activated, I find it impossible to get back to the travel news coming on automatically without the radio continuing.

What happens then (after the radio has been activated and has now been turned off on the power button) is this:
Driving along, the visual black travel news box will come up on the sat nav. (sat nav is not set by the way, just visuals). Usually, all being fine, I would start to hear the report. However, at this point it is not audible. I have to twiddle the volume in order to hear it (even if the volume bars are lit up to indicate there is volume there already).
I can now hear the travel report. However, when the said travel report has finished, the radio continues. I cannot turn this off by pressing exit on the steering column as I would usually. I have to press the power button on the dash board once to turn it off and get back to sat nav. When the next set of travel news commences, I have to do this dance all over again... not good if you are driving and have half an eye on the dashboard.

I am sure it is simply a sequence of buttons or something which needs to be pressed as I have solved it once before. Be a shame if I can't listen to radio because I'm scared it will knock the travel news out...

Thanks.
Sonia

Firstly there are different volume levels for radio and traffic news and parking sensors etc you can alter each in the settings menu . Are you saying that when FM radio is on you do get traffic messages but they do not revert to the station you were listening to when the traffic news finishes ? Perhaps it is just a matter of getting the traffic news volume level higher ..?
wonderful book shop by the way , i have bought 2 books from you :-)

Hi, Clan, thank you for responding and for your kind compliments on the bookshop!

No, the radio has since been turned 'off'... I will be driving along in silence with sat nav on visual then traffic news comes on but is inaudible. In order to hear it i have to twiddle the volume button. Then i can hear the traffic report. When the report has finished, instead of automatically shutting off, the radio station continues in FM. This when the radio was not 'on' on the first place. Cannot use the exit button on the steering column to 'exit' the report either. Have to turn it off on power button...

historicaly travel news on FM has always had to have the radio on to work even if you have the volume down it will still come through audible .It will be the local bbc radio station which breaks in whatever you are listening to ... after the travel news has finished the radio carries on as it was before on the same channel you were listening to . This can work when you are playing a CD too . If you don't want the travel report you press EXIT to cancel it .

The navigation system picks up it's data from another source ( classic FM transmits the computer data to run it ) so a bit confusing not having driven far enough to get a traffic message come up on the sensus but it is mainly graphical and text based , you say you hear audio ?

Thank you for trying to help me...

I am not listening to the radio at this time. This is the problem. The travel news box appears, no audio, turn volume know to get audio, listen to travel news... Even if I press exit in middle of the travel report, it does not exit but carries on.

The last paragraph makes more sense to me about the navigation system using FM... Perhaps i should be looking for information on now to sort this muddle in The manual for the navigation system... It is frustrating... Like you say, i can't try to sort it until I hit a travel report which could be anytime, anywhere except when I'm stationary!
