Seems likely something is draining the battery when you are away from the car for a week or more - often called a parasitic drain. A dodgy alternator rectifier is one way this could happen but there could be others. A battery isolator switch is a cheap way to address the symptoms but you could take fuses out while measuring the drain current to localise the offending device - boot light, glovebox light, radio etc.

Cheers I might do some investigation then!

I'd ring your local Volvo and get one of them fitted. It'll certainly last longer than 3 yeas...
Absolutely. I paid about £85 for mine a couple of years ago for a 2.0D, fitted free. It replaced what was presumably the OEM battery (since i bought the car at less than three years old); hence that battery lasted best part of 8 years.

KF..... the only place i ever bought an exhaust system where the back box rotted out within the 12 month guarantee..... the free replacement went the same way. That was for a Mk3 Capri back in the 80s, but i haven't been back since.

QuickFit have got back to me saying yes I have a 3 year guarantee and I can take it to any centre to have it replaced, which sounds promising. Even if it's a crap battery, it's still new so should be better than the 2.5 year old crap battery currently in the car?

Just came back after 13 days today, again dead battery!

Luckily the jumpstarter worked perfectly first time, so that was definitely a worthwhile investment!!

Going to hopefully take it to **ik fit at the weekend to get the battery replaced under warranty.

KFit checked the battery and alternator today.. Apparently they're both fine, so the only thing I can think of now is that it must be parasitic leak?

I want to try and locate the black box and take it out to eliminate it as a cause.

Finally removed the black box today.. So I'll see if it goes flat when I'm next away for my car for a solid 9 days!
