So does this mean they can only steal my engine when I'm not looking?

I think it does, I have yet to work out the actual function of the bonnet switch. I guess it's just to check the bonnet is shut so someone (that doesn't know about failed catches) can't open it to tamper with the engine.

Yeah but I don't really see the point, you can't get very far with the immobiliser, and the deadlocks. It's still a bit of a skill getting a failed catch to open anyway

Only some X40s have deadlock. But yes, you are right, they can't get far...

Maybe this is a feature where you want someone to do some work of the engine but not allow him into the car?

Perhaps the nice folk at volvo figured crooks would go inside the car to nick things, but nobody would ever nick bits of engine?

This switch looks like its only there to warn the bonnet is open as the dash indicates this. However, the bonnet lock is secure and can only be released from within the cabin so to that effect it is alarmed

Does anyone know where I could get a replacement battery for my alarm or will it work if I just remove it.
I'm getting a immobiliser warning light on dash and when codes were read a last service, it pointed to alarm battery. Cheers. |

I thought I'd dig up this thread as my alarm isn't working.
I've got the fast flashing led on ignition on and if I deliberately trigger the alarm I get flashing lights but no siren. I'm guessing this is the alarm battery from what I have read. Not sure I can be arsed to fix it! It used to work as it would go off for no reason sometimes (I blamed the weather) and if I left the windows/sunroof open. Also it would go off if I opened the bonnet (its bodged as the cable snapped).
