Default V40 with VEA engines from week 20!!

Volvo Sweden have confirmed that as of week 20, the new VEA engine(s) will be fitted to the V40.

No word on what engine though but my guess would be the D4 with 181bhp...

Default V40 + powerfull VEA and manual box.

What would be attractive would be 250bhp plus VEA engine mated to a manual box with an AWD option.

Not too fancy a basic spec to keep the price sensible and we could be back to the original T5 period bringing back some pizaz and interest in the brand......

Lets face it the constant chanting of the 'premium' mantra is just so much hot air.... particularly in regard to these V40s that are simply Focus' in a vaguely posher frock......

Really wish Volvo had a better roll out programme for the new VEA engines
this coming out in dribs and drabs is no use at all
and still not VEA engine with AWD.

Facts are facts Volvo are looked upon by the market dealer/public/press as being a premium brand doesn't matter what the origins of the car are.

Do agree though that it would be nice to see a hot version of the V40 manual and auto versions

I certainly would not agree with the comment that V40's are a Focus in a posher frock..... just had a rental focus on a trip to Sweden and it was lightyears behind wife's V40 in terms of refinement, driver involvement and fun!

It was even drinking the diesel at a higher rate than our V40!

But it is somewhat the truth:

I wouldn't be surprised if the V40 got a wider spread of the VEA engines, perhaps replacing the 1.6 with the 120hp variant. Otherwise it seems an awful long delay!

Hi NewVolvo

We see now the new diesel VEA is in the V40 in 190bhp form.

Do you know if any VEA petrol engines are going to be fitted to the V40? In an odd kind of way Volvo are downsizing engine size, although if petrol VEA is fitted to V40 it would be an engine size increase? Or are they going to keep the petrol engines as they are atm?

Regards

Yes the T5 is here for the V40 , The 4 cyl B4204T 245 bhp 350 nm with the 8 speed auto . Also the slightly more powerful T5 5 cyl with AWD .
Together with the T2 T3 T4 which are still the 1.6 ford

The D4 in 190 bhp 400 nm trim too

All the VEA engines are 2 litre from 120 bhp to 306 bhp 400 nm petrol

and expected 230 bhp D5 coming sometime soon ..

those lower powered variants are ford units as per the previous model years .
I seem to remember there will be a VEA 120 bhp though so would be a T2 . Things are very complicated now !

According to Swedish (Car) Media, the petrol VEA engines will also find its way into the new V40. Would certainly make perfect sense IMO.

Personally I find the T4 a particular boring engine in the V60 guise (not the VEA unit).
