RE: Fitting a turbo boost gauge to a T4
I've just bought myself a 20psi Autometer z-series unit from the states - £36 shipped. Autometer make some very nice, accurate, but good value gauges. Take a poke around... http://www.autometer.com/
There are almost certainly a number of vacuum take-off points on the manifold...I'll take a look at our V40 tomorrow if you're desperate. cheers James

RE: Fitting a turbo boost gauge to a T4
Thanks for the advice, if you could have a look at your V40 sometime that would be a great help, I've had a quick look at mine and cant see anything obvious - I dont want to plug it into the wrong place and blow something up! :7

>That's not the spirit! Be bold... > Ok, I'll try ;-) I think I'll order the BSR gauge from PFS, so I've got a chance of getting it by the weekend, might get an ITG filter while I'm there too :9 . I noticed the standard air filter has a sheet of foam glued to the paper element - never seen that before - I suppose they put it there to reduce intake noise? Looks a bit restrictive though... |

Hi.
You are correct in that the foam is to reduce noise. I carefully removed that piece on my old T4 and also if you can/want to, carefully remove the foam from the inside walls of the upper and lower airbox. This makes it sound like a jet plane. A fantastic sound as the turbo spools up! I loved the noise it made when I did that, but the intake on the T5 is longer and supresses the noise anyway, hence they don't even put any foam in the T5 airbox. Cheers, Dan. |

Hi,
if you want a good grunt from your T5 fit one of Don Norchi`s poly bushes for the top engine mount, its awsome Regards Eddie 850 T5 |

I'm not quite sure how the polybush gives you more grunt Eddie :9 Just kidding, I know what you mean.
The vacuum take-offs on the manifold all seem to be located directly downstream (ie: the engine side) of the throttle body. Take off the engine cover, and notice the concentration of small diameter vacuum pipes in the area under the small 'extra bit' in the bottom right corner of the cover. Tee off any of those vacuum lines, but take care to do so before any restrictors (been there) or one-way valves. If there's a spare one, use it (you'll probably need to go scrap yard hunting for a tapping), but there didn't seem to be any spare on our 99 2.0T. cheers James

RE: Fitting a turbo boost gauge to a T4
Ok, I'll try that at the weekend - I haven't really looked downstream of the throttle body so far because that plastic cover thingy was getting in the way. Thanks for the help :-) I suppose the polybush just reduces the engine movement when you put your foot down? |

Yeah...stops you breaking stuff and abusing the other engine mounts.
cheers James

If you can pop over to Bristol, I'll be more than happy to lend you a hand with the fitting. Its quite straightforward to do. The challenge really comes with mounting the boost gauge itself.
