Probably could get 4x4 which Landrover fit correct, but getting the more complex AWD correct is a different challenge

Maybe time to go back to RWD and be done with it or at least go with FWD. Sometimes, it's better to pick your fights.
Seems a bit of a sweeping statment, if you are making it based alone on the reports on this thread.

LR never had any cars generate an AWD problem ?

I'm not Volvo AWD issues have been known for over 10 years there are many documented issues with XC90, S60 & V70 R models.

I thought the LR anti-rust hardware was a stroke of genius. Constantly renewing the underbody protection and ensuring the engine was always running on the freshest oil through regular top ups :-D

The spline issues have been solved long time ago and this doesn't affect any current vehicles.

A mate always has Land Rovers. He knows the local LR dealers in the workshops by first name terms. He said he does like them, but you must always have a warranty as they break, often. Over the last 12 years, I dont know of a car of his, that hasn't had diffs or gearboxes changed.
The Haldex is a great system and like anything, is a mechanical device, which means it can go wrong. If you look anywhere on line for reviews and owner reviews, you wont find 'that' many which have had issues or problems, but anything can break. If it didn't , we'd all be driving it !!

I can't be reading this right. You don't think the LR transmission is simpler than the AWD do you? Or are you thinking about the Freelander? My Range Rover is about 10 times more complicated than the XC60. About 10 times the cost to fix as well.

I didn't say RangeRover, I said Landrover

Disco and Range have the same air suspension and transmission. Defender is the only Land Rover with simpler suspension than the XC90 and it's horrible in terms of comfort, but the transmission is more complicated and ours is constantly needing parts replaced. It's also possible to completely wreck if not used correctly. At least that can never happen with the XC60.

Only ever needed to change clutches and short half shafts on LandRovers over many years of maintaining them whilst serving in HM Forces where they did many miles and were trashed by the average driver - short half shaft only broke because they started in the wrong gear with a heavy load. On my own LandRovers I have had to replace one clutch thrust bearing over 20 years of ownership.

LandRover main and transfer boxes are incredibly simple and easy to fix, just heavy and chunky - plus being essentially the same box that has been used for 50 plus years the reliability is amazing

The SoftRoader versions have lost the engineering and reliability that you find on the agricultural LandRover, in the same way that traditional old Volvo cars only share the name with the present range

Wish I could say the same for our Defenders. The Range Rover certainly isn't as simple or as reliable. Front transfer box seems to have a short life for some reason. Hope they've improved it on mine.
