Exclamation Turbo deisel engine

Yonks ago I was pretty knowledgable regarding petrol engines but have never delved into the workings nor even less the maintainance of oil burners.
Problem appeared with a 'tappet' sounding 'ticking', especialy in the colder weather, on over-run. Do they have tappets? !
So therefore is there a really good manual available for my 1999 V40 1900 TD motor @134,000 miles please? My Haynes only describes the petrol, and not that well I find.

Can't comment on if your engine noise or the tappets. My diesel 02 plate isn't the quietest of engines though!

For a manual I use a copy of vadis which is the old volvo software for information, parts etc. This has all the info you need and is quite cheap, the newer version is vida. You can get a renault haynes manual if you want a book, the engine was used in the renault laguna but check you get the right age as yours would be pre-common rail.
