Wink Driveshaft Bearing Renewal 2005 V50 - Useful Info

Hi

My car's just been in the garage for some work detailed elsewhere on the forum - but while there they found that the driveshaft bearing was very noisy and needed replacing.

Apparently volvo will happily sell you a new driveshaft complete with bearing for £300 odd - your driveshaft goes back to them for reconditioning. What they will not do is sell you just a new bearing!

The guy at my garage had had this problem on his car and took the bearing out at which stage he discovered that it was a Ford part complete with part no. He called the nearest Ford dealer up and bought himself a new bearing (without the driveshaft) for £40 odd!!

So that's what he's doing for me - the bearing is on backorder at the moment.

Good old volvo - charge £300, get a perfectly serviceable driveshaft in return, put a new £40 bearing in it and resell it for £300 - it beggars belief...

Sorry if I haven't posted in time for anyone out there who's just stumped up the £300.....
