Question Rust on plug leads

Ive not been getting very good mpg for a while now and finally got round to checking things over. It had a service a few thousand miles ago with air, oil and fuel filter. I checked the plug caps and one looked like its had water in there but there was none in it tight now. Its got brown rust marks down the recess that its in and the end of the plug lead was brown too. I cleaned it up a bit and made sure all the connections were on tight, one clicked on a lot better, but will i need to replace the plugs and leads since they have got wet? Will it likely make any difference to the running/mpg with just cleaning them up?

I have had a similar experience with my daughters car this weekend, her car started running rough on saturday night (missfiring badly), upon investigation i discovered two of the HT connectors for the spark plugs had what looked like rust (yellow/orange dust) on the rubber sleeves but after having a diagnostic done it turns out the coilpack was foobarred and the "rusty" deposits on the rubber sleeving was one of the indicators.
Ebay to the rescue on sunday afternoon, 2nd hand coil pack purchased and
fitted and she was able to drive home (Abingdon, Oxfordshire) with no further trouble.
Dad left out of pocket but one happy daughter and family.
