Quick question, what would you say is the best (robust, durable)V70 model - I assume it'd be pre takeover by current owners?
Regards
Tony
Not necessarily. Geely have tended to allow Volvo to run their own show with regards to engineering quality while the previous owners, Ford, tended to interfere with their all knowing corporate attitude to motor manufacturing which tended to use Ford components which generally didn't come up to the standards that Volvo would have set. That's not to say that Volvos from the Ford era are bad cars, just that some of the parts don't have the engineering robustness that you might expect from Volvo.

I've tried to get the info from the maindealers but just get met by obfuscation and avoiding answering the question.

cheers:
There is only one way to find out an accurate answer and that is to get a quote from the two places you have in mind ...

The boot will be worth changing, a 5 minute job .. the track rod end joint rarely wear out and changing them for no reason will cost you hundreds for no reason .

I got a quote from my local village garage the other day for labour only to change both front control arms (wishbones) and came out at £140 all in as long as there are no surprises, not sure what might surprise them mind but they are normally pretty good with me.

The price was labour only!

But I would be buying the parts cheap also, partly because of cost due to my circumstances but mostly because I don't know how much longer the car will last before a large repair may be needed, namely transmission, secondly the rack, so I am playing it by ear but the control arms are needed for the MOT. Plus, I also have smaller issues needing sorting of which I am working through, slowly. I also have to consider how many miles I am doing, be lucky if its 2kpa

So £140 for Labour + £110 for parts (control arms, ball joints and stabilizer links) all in is something I can manage with a little saving here and there, due to the milage i do compared to many other drivers, the job should last me about the same amount in years, even if I had to do the control arms twice during that time, it would still be much cheaper than the main dealer and prob work out at about the same price as an indy.

So, for me over 8 years at about 20k miles at a push, 2 repairs to the control arms, ball joints and stabilizer links (both sides) more likely because of deterioration than damage, £500

I am a tight @ss plus I bought a lemon and forgot how expensive volvo are to run, in my defence, I didn't think my previous T5's were that costly :/ I blame my dogs, I wanted something bigger than the Laguna tourer and I remembered my mate sold 850 and how much leg room that in the rear passenger area and I also remembered that the V70 had vents going in to the rear compartment, that ideal for the dogs in the summer time, so it was back to Volvo, sadly it with my tunnel vision goggles on, then rest his history. I am rambling, carry on...

Well whoever you got your labour quote from is charging mail dealer prices ,

Labour to change 2 x front wishbones is 48 minutes ( Volvo Standard Time )

I will query it but they said about an hour a side.
I would like to see an invoice from Volvo for 2 wishbones showing £140 labour, that seams awfully low.

the volvo standard time is stated by volvo which dealers should adhere to .
its a simple job to change a wishbone , I could do the pair in 25 mins not 2 hours under professional conditions .. Fitting 2 volvo lower wishbones won't affect the wheel alignment .

If its a 2015 model you're looking at, then that will be the Ford based "P3" platform. Personally, I think they're great cars & they're capable of doing mammoth miles (providing they're looked after of course).

The newer V90 (Geely ownership) replaced the Ford based P3 V70. I don't know much about the V90, but it certainly has presence, the interior is very nice & the vehicle itself is very spacious (even bigger than the V70, as its a larger vehicle).

These newer Geely Volvo models are still, relatively new. The real test of durability etc is to come so to speak. I've come across some with fairly high mileage though & there seems to be plenty of them on the roads.
