V70 D5 185 (2009) - MAP sensor fault?
Hi All,
My car triggered the EML earlier this week, so I had a look with VIDA and found the following: ECM-P006900 MAP - Barometric pressure correlation ECM-P222700 Barometric pressure circuit range/performance I reset the DTCs, took it for a short drive and it felt ok to me, maybe a little rough at idle, so I stuck the battery on charge in case it was a low battery freak out thing (it's not used much currently). I checked it again today and the EML came back on, same DTCs so it looks like there is a fault. Am I right in thinking the MAP sensor is bottom of the intercooler, left hand side of the car, just above where the hose from the throttle body meets it? I took a few photos but imgur is being daft and won't re-size them, I'll try to post them later. Anything else to check or test first? All electrical connections and hoses look ok, I can't see or hear any air leaks. Volvotradeparts via eBay list the genuine sensor for £93.50, I'm assuming there's no point messing around with a non genuine cheaper part? Thanks Stu

Here's the pics, not sure what's going on with the sizes but hopefully they work:\
Not sure why I'm getting a parking brake fault here too, but ignore that for now. Any assistance appreciated, also - whether it's worth removing and cleaning the MAP sensor to try that before replacing it? The car has done 91,000 miles and I assume the part is original however. Thanks Stu

Had exactly the same faults a couple of weeks ago. Changed the MAP sensor and have had no problems since. Don't spend £93 buying the part from volvo. The genuine sensor is made by Bosch. I bought the exact genuine replacement from eBay for £29.98 delivered. Ill see if I can find the link

Looks like it's out of stock but send them an email. They got back to me the same day. Yep the MAP sensor comes off the intercooler before going to the throttle body. Held in place with a torx head bolt (25 if I remember correctly) I was able to remove it without taking anything else off the car. Tried cleaning it first but no joy so just replaced it.

Thanks very much, Rids! I’ve sent that eBay seller a message to ask about stock and check that the newer part number (0261 230 295) is a direct replacement for my original part (0261 230 106) as it appears to be from the description and other googling around on the subject.

Your welcome hopefully it fixes the fault for you like it did for me. Pretty confident it will do.
That number is the same as I had on my original part. I gave them the part number and my reg and they came back saying that the new one is a direct replacement for the original. Have you noticed any power loss at all? Sometimes mine would run fine even with the EML but other times randomly I would have pretty much zero power like it had gone into a kind of limp home mode and the turbo wouldn't spool up.

Thanks, I haven't noticed much different lately with driving it, but I have probably done under 100 miles in the last 6 months due to being on gov shielding advice, working at home, and using my camper van instead if going out anywhere.
It perhaps is a little rough at idle, and lacking boost sometimes, not sure to be honest as the Volvo feels like a rocket compared to a camper van regardless!

Can you plot a graph of the MAP sensor for a before and after for the forum if it is even possible to graph it? This would help any future diagnosis for people with the same issue.

Just replaced one of these
Hello Stu,
Another thing to check is the TMAP temperature and compare to the MAF sensor temp, as i have literally just replaced one of these that had failed and it was reading 80c all the time without throwing faults. As soon as I replaced it, it was then reading the same as the MAF. If you're interested, this is the part I fitted, direct fit, worked perfectly https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251892996537 Cheers |
