Very happy!
Does this chap do repairs via the postal system?
My whole cluster went dead this morning, and I am a long way from London.

Mine went intermittent on the clock first and in last week, after 2 months, whole cluster is now failing. Booked in for while you wait fix on Wednesday. As I already have airbag message do I still need to disconnect battery before removing cluster?

It won't make any difference now , just clear the codes after you fit the repaired unit back .

Angry DIM problem...

Our old V70 1999 model spectacularly failed the pre mot test. We only paid 600 quid for it. So on to the net to look for a new one. Looking to upgrade as well in the process we went for an XC70 in Durham (only 2,5h away!!!) Test drive and lots of tyre kicking, peering under the bonnet and other technical things, we came away with a 2.5D 2002 XC70 AWD for 1900 quid! Drives lovely! We got most of the way back home to notice the dash had gone blank, no speedo/rev counter/fuel or temp gauge, also the lcd displays weren't working. Sooo I spent the next 3 hrs reading through this part of the forum looking for a cure. I had already surmised that a 'loose' connection was the problem but how to repair was the next step. Ultimately, the solution is to rip the DIM out and send it off for professional fettling.
i'll keep you all posted on how it proceeds...

Default DIM done!

Hi Peeps...

Got the replacement DIM from Lukas today. And it was sooooo easy to tear the old one out and fit the new one! So good to be able to see what speed we are really doing and hoping that we don't run out of diesel... Next problem to solve is to find someone in west Cumbria with a Vida Dice to reset the SRS and engine service errors. So is there anyone out there???

Thumbs up Volvo S60 Dim repair

My Volvo S60 2003 DIM failed at 72000 miles.
Charged my battery while on the vehicle and lost all instrumentation...coincidence or what!
This did return after twiddling with the left knob on cluster.
However then had the dreaded message giving the well known warning SRS airbag service urgent. Main dealers wanted £75 plus vat to put it on a diagnostic test to tell me what I already knew that the unit had failed usually due to failed solder joints on printed circuit. Guess they would have then tried to sell me a new unit...cost I believe to be about £700.
So took it to independent Volvo garage W.F. Pye Pershore road Birmingham B302YT.
They knew straight away what the problem was having seen it many times. They sent it off for repair ...came back repaired after a few days with lifetime warranty.
Nick from Pye refitted and then removed fault modes with laptop software and all fixed. Total cost £200
Could highly recommend Nick and Andy at Pye Volvo.
They even have a couple of donor instrument clusters they can fit while yours is away for repairs...however these may not always be compatible and may not work as in my case.
They Know what they are talking about and are honest decent types.
Would recommend highly.
Regards SWB

I've just purchased 52plate S60 2.0t with the dreaded dim, dash failure, I know I can have them repaired, but I just wanted to know when looking for second hand cluster, what numbers do I need to match with mine as there's 4 sets on the top of my unit. I don't mind mileage but it is no good when I can't see speed, petrol etc.
If anybody knows of a repair service around Yorkshire that would be great.

Many thanks Daz

I bought a spare for mine last year from a breaking car. Mine is a 2003 V70. The picture below shows identification numbers from the the one I bought for my own car. Everything matches except the barcode number. I have tried it in the car and it works perfectly.

Thanks for that MW Man I've been through eBay and only found one that's the same but it's from Latvia and it has some defects around the clocks and they want £115 posted, I just was hoping that I could find out if others are compatible without the complete matching numbers.

The search continues.
