Volvo 440 Kangarooing?
Hi newbie here this is my first thread i just hope someone can help as i havent had a lot of luck so far . I own a 1991 volvo 440( limited edition catalyst ) the bracketed info is whats on the boot , it has a 1700cc engine , its been off the road unused for 6 weeks with a near empty tank of petrol , i got it back on the road Monday gone ,put £10 worth of petrol in , the car was its usual good self for about 30 miles then it all of a sudden started kangarooing , ive been told it could be one of 3 things, plugs , timing or fuel filter , ive checked the plugs , they spark fine i havent checked the timing which brings me onto the fuel filter , i purchased one which i was told was the correct one for the whole of the 400 volvo series , it was a silver barrel shaped filter with a female thread either end , i spent the whole day under the car but couldn't find anything that looked remotely like the new one , i rang a volvo specialist who then proceeded to tell me it was the wrong filter and that the one i require is a plastic one which is located in the engine near the carb , the only thing i can find is what ive now been told is a seperator , i am now assuming that this could be whats at fault but cannot find one anywhere , i have been told they dont make them anymore . i am not sure if this information makes any sense to anyone but any help would be greatly appreciated in my quest to solve the problem , i dont want to have to scrap it or anything because its in excellent condition one previous owner and only has 45000 miles on the clock , please if anyone can help , thanks in advance Keith ps it has a carburetter and is not turbo or fuel injection

You'd probably be better off cleaning out the carb as well as changing the filter. Your 440 has the b18kp/kpd engine (kpd if it has the cat. converter). Also the petrol tank maybe full of c***p as well. Are you sure the distributor cap and rotor are fine as well?
Here are a few pictures just so you can get an idea about the filter in the canister or seperator. 2_23_02.jpg This shows the whole fuel system. 2_23_03.jpg The top picture contains the filter. There's a fuel filter also where the petrol enters the carb. as well. 2_23_10.jpg This one shows the float chamber 2_20_29_12.jpg This picture shows how you can change the idle speed Last edited by GTMaster; Aug 19th, 2009 at 20:11. |

The carb. in question is called a Solex Cisac 28-34. Try asking for parts to this carb., or for a Renault 19 1.7l since they share the same engines.
