Replacement light for 1997 940 Estate
Hi,
Our P reg 940 estate has failed its MOT as the driver's side rear light is broken / smashed over the fog light part. Garage can't find a replacement. I've found this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLVO-740-...item2577ae54ed I know it's for a 740, but we wondered if a 740 light will fit a 940? I did some checking first on this forum: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/archiv.../t-157821.html http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=156886 And it seems that maybe it'll work, but I thought I'd check here first. Any advice much appreciated. Thanks |

I don't know about 740/940 compatibility (although I'd guess they're the same). But you should still be able to get the right part from Volvo: I got new Volvo rear clusters for my 740 a year or two back. Try FRF/Rufe on here.

Thanks for the replies :-)
I have checked out the FRF link, thanks, that looks hopeful. Unfortunately GSF don't have lights for the car, but thanks for the link. I need to drive to London on Friday to collect my family who are staying there, so I thought as I live near Staffordshire where the ebay seller is based, I could drive there in my clapped out old tiny polo, get the light, go home, and ask the garage to fit the light on the 940, the MOT would be then okay, and I could go to London in the volvo. A bit of a long shot I know, but I thought I'd ask just in case! Thanks |

You say you live near Staffordshire. Then give CP Motors a call. My new rear light cost £35, which i thought was very good.

Sometime the cheaper ones doen't fit as well. Braydon are a good quality supplier.

Do they have to be new? Lixah is breaking a 940 estate in Tamworth I think:

I've always used new genuine Volvo for the rear clusters, you want a good water-tight seal. You should be able to get them delivered same day to a Volvo dealer, but expect to pay the wrong side of £50 each. On the plus side they do come complete with a full set of bulb holders and new bulbs.
For headlight glass I look for genuine second-hand; and for the front indicators and side lights (when the glue fails on the originals) I have found the cheap Taiwanese copies fine, especially at less than half the price of genuine Volvo parts. |

Another option
Excuse the follow up to my own post, I cannot see the option to edit my last one.
It looks as though temporary repairs using coloured tape are still permitted. http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m4s01000001.htm This may be a method for the original poster to get his car back on the road quickly. |
