Default Data usage New car

Last week I took my approaching 3 year old V90 D4 Momentum 22.5k in for a service. As I walked in a new (pre registered) black V90 R Design with lots of gizmos and on 20" wheels winked at me. I'm now the owner of said car. The family are arranging on-going treatment in a specialist facility

So, my question today is what size data sim will I require for day to day use, On Call, Connected etc. I'm quite happy to continue map updates etc via a USB and I'm not likely to stream much if any music. My preference is for a long term, pre loaded card. Any suggestions appreciated.

As my hearing is less than perfect I'm not one who constantly carries his mobile around so tethering my smartphone is not a realistic option.

Frank

If it's a MY20 onwards, it should have the free 100GB Sim already included.

Not sure of the MY but I suspect it's been sitting around somewhere for a few months. As a clue the door mirrors are silver, the only bit I didn't like.

I bought a 12GB preloaded EE SIM last May when I got my new car, and I've so far used about 3GB of data, if that. I do all map updates via USB, except, I think, for one which I downloaded as I happened to be spending a long time in the car that day without the need for satnav.

Saying that, I will likely buy another 12GB SIM when this one expires in May, as I think the only way to get 12 months worth of data is to get a 12GB SIM (the smaller ones expire after a shorter time).

I ought to mention I drive about 18k-20k a year, so it's not like the car doesn't get much use!

I purchased on of these. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I paid £32, I kept going back to the site as their offers come and go randomly. I just put it in the car and it works, there was no 'set up' required.
Silver mirrors suggest 2019my, if it does not have the heads up then that would confirm 2019my.

Dont forget that MY20 started during May 2019. Even if bult/reg after the announcement from Volvo Jul 30th Volvo said retrofit was available FOC.
Dealers may be reluctant to admit that unless challenged. (why am I not surprised ).

I think I read somewhere that the 100GB SIM card is only available to the first registered owner of the vehicle and as this is a pre-registered vehicle and the Dealer hasn’t allocated the SIM to it, the OP may not be eligible for it.

I definitely think it’s worth pushing the Dealer to supply a free SIM as part of the deal if it’s not already in the car.

Surely you don't need to add a SIM for On Call, it works over the built in one. I don't know about other things you want though.

I currently have the 12Gb 3 sim in the car and a 24Gb, 2 year sim in the glove box, waiting to be installed. The 12Gb was installed last June and I have 3Gb left.

In the time I have had the car, I’ve averaged about 1Gb per month. I have NW Europe maps set to auto update OTA. If you use Spotify, then you may use more than that.

Volvo on call will work without a data sim but if you want full internet connectivity check with the dealer before buying a data sim as it may come with the 100gb.
If not a 12gb 3 data sim will last 12 months or until data used if sooner from the date you start to use it, it should last your needs the 12 months.
