Privilege asked me to list every option that was not standard, eg Apple carplay, air suspension, even though they do not affect the premium. They said that Polestar would not affect the premium as long as the performance gain was under ten percent, so there's no problem there.

Churchill pretty much said the same to me on the performance gain as I asked the question in case I got Polestar.
Listing all factory fit options though is a new one on me for Insurance, but I suppose I can understand why.

There was a recent article in Auto Express saying that you should do it so when I was changing cars I asked Privilege and to my surprise they said yes you should.

I checked with Admiral (my current insurer) before I ordered my XC90 with Polestar. They wanted to know whether the increase in power was less than 10% (which I believe it is) and this means the premium increase won't be too crippling. Like a previous poster, I was a bit taken aback about how they wanted to know every single add on I'd ordered, many of which will only improve the car's safety.

When extras can add£,000s to the cost of a new car I am sure the insurance company has a need to know.

If your car is written off we would no doubt use the cost of the extras to maximise our payout.

A similar thing happens in house contents insurance, if you say insure your contents for £40k and have a claim, if the assessor thinks the total value of the contents is £50k then they may only pay 80% of your claim.

regrettably, of course, all these nice expensive options we add to our cars then become virtually worthless when trying to sell!

I have my doubts that the payout for your written-off new car will include anything for the expensive options, because I suspect the insurance companies simply refer to guides which only identify the basic models and trim designations.

Hi all. I've got the 2020 T5 XC60 and turned 40 this year. 9+ years NCD, been driving 22 years and the quote I got this morning from Direct Line for the polestar upgrade was £19.04 increase to my premium (which has 10.5 months left to run)

The dealer told me it's about a 12bhp increase, so that made it just shy of 5% increase in power. If anyone knows any different, I'd be keen to be corrected

Cheers

According to the Polestar Engineered information, the T5 engine increases from 250hp to 253hp and torque goes from 350nm to 400nm.

I had my T5 done in June and can thoroughly recommend it.

My insurance company Aviva didn’t increase the premium when I rang to advise them of the upgrade.
