MPG not as good as expected XC60
Hi All
I have recently purchased an XC60 D4 inscription pro, love the car and the way it drives but am only getting about 33mpg in the month i have had the car, i wondered if this was reflective of this car? I previously had a BMW 3.o diesel which did 40mpg easily so that is what i was hoping to get from this at leats, seeing as it is 50% smaller in capacity Would be interested to hear thoughts on if this is common? Thanks Shepster |

It all depends on the type of use you are giving the car, also I have noticed a definite drop in my MPG in the colder weather.
My V90CC is mechanically identical to your car, so I would expect my figures to be broadly similar to yours; your car is a little more brick shaped than mine, but I would not expect a difference of more than a mile or two. Day to day, short runs about town and rural roads gives me an average of about 34 mpg. Longer trips, say 25 miles plus, on A roads readily give figures over 40 mpg, while good long (100 miles plus) journeys on main roads at a steady 70 mph will return 50 mpg or more. I run my tyres at the higher “eco” pressures. Use of the eco setting in the drive mode gains a couple of mpg on those figures, but I don’t like the frequent jerks as the power comes back on after coasting, so I only use that setting rarely. I hope that helps.

I had the previous model XC60 with the same engine, the V90 is about 10% better in fuel, even though its an auto where the 60 was a manual FWD.
It got 38-48 mpg depending on external temperature (worse in winter) and driving conditions. V90 is 40-47 average.

My car is ex Volvo as well, also with about 6000 miles when I bought it.
I found that it was still loosening up for some time after I bought it and mpg has continued to improve as the miles accumulate. It is on about 16000 now and I reckon it is just about fully run in. One of my previous D5 engined cars was not at its best until it had covered well over 20000 miles.

I have had my XC60 D4 (Auto AWD) since new in Sep 2017.
I have covered 23,000 miles of which 5,200 have been towing either 1,600 Kg of caravan or 1,800 Kg of boat. My overall average is 39.2 mpg based upon the diesel I have put in the tank (I keep a constant record). Interestingly, the on-board computer is giving 38.1 mpg. This is the first car I have owned where the computer understates the MPG. My last three Land Rovers have all been optimistic by 8-10% Typically I get mid 40's when not towing with the best brim to brim tankful being 54 mpg and the worst (non towing) 41 mpg. I drove to Portugal last year and constant motorway use gave between 43 and 48 mpg.
