Volvo XC90 D5 SE Lux Cream leather interior 212k miles for Repair or Spares/donor car

Despite that my wife and I have not driven (or owned) any other cars in the past 20 years except Volvo estates and an XC90, I have never posted or shared any comments in this forum (or any others for that matter) so please bare with me if I’m not up to the speed with forum rules or delays in responses.

I’m listing our family car for ‘spares or repair’, the car starts and drives, with gear changes all normal and slick. We have owned the car just over eight years since February 2015 doing around 6000 miles a year. In that time we have spent a huge amount on it with no expense spared - in excess of £20,000 with the car having done 42k miles use since all the major work. All work has been undertaken as detailed below. All parts used have been OE original equipment Volvo parts: We have always insisted on this. Most of the work has been carried out by local Volvo main dealer Sturgess or local Volvo Specialists trained mechanics, engine rebuild carried out by engine specialist in Lincolnshire.

The positives:
-As much as we would want an enthusiast to fix it up the car would make, an ideal donor car for the transmission items alone, 42k miles new gear box, prop shaft, final drive unit and more as well.

· Despite the mileage, this is still a great looking car with a huge potential for someone who wants to seize an opportunity.

· Recent MOT: valid until February 2024 with minor advisories, ‘rear suspension bump stop missing and crazing on headlight’.

· New Volvo OE automatic gearbox installed along with brake hoses, gear shift cable, condenser, pressure hose, various bushes, rear seats side rails all by Volvo main dealer September 2016

· New Volvo OE turbo, intercooler, turbo pipe, boost pipe, rear oil pump and pressure sensor, rear support arm, gas struts, front strut mounts, propeller shaft, front brake discs and pads, both front wishbones - all in March 2016 by Sturgess Volvo main dealer

· New Volvo OE final drive unit (differential) April 2016 by Volvo main dealer

. New Volvo OE tow-bar with electrics fitted by Sturgess main dealer 2016 (it was about £480).

· Engine: full engine out strip down and rebuild including timing belt, water pump and particulate filter, carried our May 2018 by specialist ‘Prestige’ (excellent customer reviews) see invoice for full detail

· Set of 4 x Michelin Cross Climate tyres in June 2021 with 15,000 miles use since then

· Notably, the car has good bodywork (one small dent on the bonnet from a laundry trolley in France! and very minor scuffs to the front and rear valances) with no record or evidence of any previous bodywork repairs or paint repairs.

· The Interior is in very good condition for its age – some minor scuffs on the internal door panels, the leather seats are in good to very good condition with creases to driver’s seat consistent with mileage – all still extremely comfortable. The carpets are clean and the car comes with cream Volvo rubber floor mats.

· New Volvo battery June 2018

· Recent new windscreen March 2023

· New Volvo OE rear offside brake calliper and rear brake pad set June 2021

· New thermostat and anti-freeze Sept 2022

· New alternator pulley Aug 2022

· New Swirl Flap kit installed and cam cover gasket April 2022

· New front brake discs and pads and front screen wash bottle May 2019 @ 188,680 miles

· New oil level sensor and oxygen sensor. June 2019

· New rear brake disc set and pads and front stabiliser arms August 2018

· New Air conditioning compressor July 2018

· New electronic unit Aug 2017

· New set of locking wheel nuts June 2016

· New front shock absorber bearings and oil pump kit and pressure sensor, bushing and rear suspension stays March 2016

· New Cam belt, swirl flaps, rocket arms and tappers Feb 2016

· New engine upper stabiliser mount and rear lower engine Mount April 2015

The negative issues:
· The car drives with gear changes all normal and slick but with an engine rattling noise becoming noticeable at about 2000 revs and above.

Evidence of oil burning - white smoke from exhaust which is variable but can be significant.

· Occasionally there is a slight hesitancy with a cold start but it settles almost instantly

· Fuel injectors may be over fuelling leading to engine oil level increase- our engine builder confirms there may be engine oils in the intercooler.

· ‘Engine System Service’ warning is on - flagging high oil level confirmed by mechanic

· SRS airbag warning has just came on in the last week

· Normal service is due soon so interval notice (standard expected) message is also showing

· Front offside ball joint will need replacing - it was not flagged up with recent MOT though.

We will be sad to see it go, as we have had great memories in this car. Whilst it has high mileage, many major (costly) parts are in very good condition and still have a long service life having been replaced in the last few years. It would be great if a club member could give it a new lease of life rather than break it up, given it still looks great and with the £20k that has been invested in it with original Volvo parts only over the last few years.

This is open and honest in description of all the known issues with the car. Viewing is welcome (just south of Leicester) by prior arrangement.

Hi Frog, would be a good idea to post this up for sale in the XC90 section on here and not just on the General For Sale section. It sounds a good buy for someone.
