Default D5 plus insurance.

Is the DPF really such a prevalent issue? This is the first I've ever heard of it. It certainly sounds concerning if it's going to be an expensive fix.

I think I'm so scared of getting it wrong it's forcing me to be highly objective about what car I'm looking at. The ones I have looked at/test driven up to now have all had nagging issues and I'm waiting until I find one I feel completely comfortable with.

Do you think not having the comfort of warranty/a place to take the car back to is outweighed by the benefits of buying privately?
Some insurance companies do favourable rates for younger drivers in Volvos, so if you can find a D5 within your budget then maybe look for a quote or two..

Many of my customers get good deals and great service from Clifton Morley Asscociates. 0208 298 9966 or bil@cma2insure.net

The Volvo designed and built D5 engine is excellent as is the Volvo M66 gearbox in those cars.

Don.

PS. and don't fall for any insurance/warranty offers, the only thing they are designed for is get more of your money into a traders pocket.

PPS. if you ask for a print-out against any Volvo vin no. FOC from any Volvo dealer you should get the full build details plus all the service history registered by any UK dealer.

We came from a 2.2 diesel Civic last year to the C30 R-Design; ours is a 2.0D and the performance is fairly similar in terms of power etc; slightly heavier on fuel than the Civ, but a nicer drive.

Ours had only 27k on the clock which is pretty low for a 4-year old car, and it came with a full Volvo history.

Unfortunately it has the wet DPF but the fluid was topped up at the 37500 3 year service which was actually done at 20500 miles, so the next biggie is potentially the 6 year service where (by rights) the filter SHOULD be done.

I would say that offering 6k is fair enough; all depends how much the dealer paid/ wants to make/ how long he's had the car in stock if he accepts that amount....

No harm in trying!

Go for D5... higher insurance cost will be worth it.

2.0D is peugeot engine which is very average in everything it does.

D5 is fast, sounds great and most importantly is a volvo engine.

Hi Ninja, viewed two c30s this morning. One private, one dealership. Both had VIN numbers where 8th digit was a 4. However when I asked the guy at the dealership if it had a DPF or indeed if it had been changed, he went an asked one of his technicians who said it did have a DPF (though you suggested it didn't) however it "never needs changing".

I'm inclined to think regardless whether it has a DPF or not, they told me it does, and in that event from what I understand it would need changing at some point.

Thoughts?

Thanks for the info Don, I will look into it! My insurer just tried to charge me £1100 on top of the premium I have already paid to change the car over to the c30 im looking at!!!! Madness!!! Got a quote from Hastings Essential for around the same as my current premium on the clio. I will give Clifton Morley a call.

Thanks for the info Dave, I'm being told conflicting things about the DPF so I'm unsure what the actual situation is with it. I am looking at a private sell also which actually now has taken my fancy more than the dealer car. Risky though! hmmmm...

Simply can't afford it I'm afraid it's like an extra £500 in insurance. Also there are no D5s that tick the boxes near me!

Mine had a 4 as the 4th character and I have never met a 2.0D with a 4 that does have a DPF.

I would suggest if you can linking to some pictures of it or better still if you can ask for some more in depth details. If you really must get them to check the rear beam for a dosing tank it should clear any problems up easily.

Load of rubbish in the never changing bit if it is manual (and does turn out to have one).

To be very honest and brutal Volvo UK were uncertain as to whether my car had a DPF, my Volvo dealer originally tried to convince me at that the EOLYS fluid needed topping up so I asked them to show me where they intended to put the fluid on a car with no DPF....one tech soon confirmed (as my car was pretty well known to them) that it indeed was a non-DPF car. It does show that even some of the correct dealerships screw up (I have even seen articles on the P1 chassis cars that goes this point on the 2.0D hysterically wrong)....
