Default New V90

Pic leaked of the estate today http://teknikensvarld.se/nya-volvo-v90-avslojad-200825/
not sure about the 'fast back' rear end, a V70 (90) shoudl have a proper vertical rear end.
Rest looks tidy enough.

A great find!
Yep, those Chinese model makers have a lot to answer for!!! :-D
As suspected the V90 looks like a 4 door version of the Volvo Concept Estate.
Yes, it's a shame it doesn't have the Kamm-tail of the estates of old but I guess that's progress as the fastback look is "in" and they could argue more aerodynamically efficient.

Love that but I agree about the Kamm tail, that should be there!!!! The rest is stunning though and it looks very in proportion

The Manufacturers all argue about boot space and all that, my old avensis supposedly have more space than the V70, and maybe it did up to its measured line (suppose its all done to below the load cover). Its what above that counts and in the case of the V70 it beat the avansis easily and is better no end. This V90 looks cool, yes agree its fashion to have the angled rear end, maybe good for aerodynamics but I LIKE my dirty rear of the V70, part of the ownership (as was the 945). Think a good compromise would be a bit like the Astra estate is done and latest BMW X5, clever use of curved screens/trim and rear tail up the top, give the impression of a 'sporty'angle whilst still maintaining (most of the) space.

I'm unconvinced about the curved screen - typically when you need that space, it's for a large, square object (eg wardrobe, fridge, etc) and it's the corners you need.

However, I like the look of the V90 - it looks to maintain practicality well and with the advances of the SPA platform should be a lovely drive.

It's worth noting that the proportions are rather different to V70s of old - the front overhang is shorter but the rear overhang is longer, and I'm imagining that the wheelbase has grown over the P3, probably by about 80mm to around the 2900 mark, and the overall length is probably up to about 4900 (similar increase).

From that, I suspect that the cabin length from the top of the A pillar to the top of the D pillar is about similar to the P3, but then the glass extends away, making the cabin length at the waistline about 150-200mm longer. A look at the proportions of the rear doors suggests that there's probably 50-75mm increase in rear legroom, meaning the boot below the load cover has gained about 100mm in length. If height (below the load cover) and width are similar to P3 then the boot capacity (VDA) grows by about 50 litres.

Overall... I like it.

My first thought when seeing the pictures was, Audi.

I too prefer the vertical tail of old but as it will likely be ten years or more before I am looking to change the xc its rather academic in my case for who knows what will be available then.

Paul.

I bought my V70 over the 5 series and A6 because of the square ended boot, but lets face it, if you need a truly big car these days, you buy a MPV.

Overall I think it looks good and well proportioned. Front grill, lights etc suits the size, but then saw the rear - not sure about the L shaped lights extending so far towards the centre of the tailgate. Maybe better in reality, have to wait and see.
