Long story short but I once had the fortune to talk to a chap called Gordon Brown who I bumped into in an airport purely by coincidence, he says he was on the design team of the XC90 and talked a lot about the use of boron steel to make it much stronger than anything else on the road. It was the first mass produced car that had included the robotised use of boron steel. Previously, the C70 convertible had boron steel but that (apparently) was hand made.....

They do feel extremely sturdy and solid even more so than normal Volvos.

You just need to hear the 'clunk' when you shut the doors to appreciate the build quality!

FYI (mentioned on the forum elsewhere) the XC90 is one of a very few that has protection for the 3rd seat passengers which is reassuring for those of you that have young kids sitting in the back.

I think it has a seatbelt pretensioner in the second row middle seat which I’ve not known of before.

Yes I wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end of an xc90. Fantastic cars, especially when carrying children.
