Dimensions V40 vs V60
Hello. I would like to be a volvo owner but the question is : v40 or v60. Both are favourites in my mind but there will be just one reason (excluding the money) for me to choose the right one. THE BACK SEATS. Our family have 5 members. So I need 3 car seats in the back. The question is : v40 have enough space for 3 car seats? V60 I think have. Thank you.

V40 is a very cramped car, even for 1 person.
You need a V60 at least, probably a V70. |

Not sure about the S60... Though an S80 would swallow up 3 seats.

3 car seats will be tricky in either car. You may not want to hear this but you may need to be looking at mpv style cars. Once out of the car seats the selection widens a little but until then it will be difficult to get 3 car seats in a regular car.

I read the OP as he needed to seat three people in the rear seat - not place three car seats on the rear seat. Not sure of the age of the three family members who will be in the rear, but three folks in the back in a modern V40 will be a squeeze. Again depends on how long the individual journeys are likely to be.

Dependant on size 3 child seats in the back of an xc/v70 you will struggle.
I have put 2 booster type seats in the back and a slim person can sit between on my xc70 but it's a bit of a squeeze, 3 I think is asking too much. If the OP is sold on a Volvo I think his only option is an xc90 with the 3rd row of seats. This of course will be more expencive to run than the v40 or v60 he was looking at so may be out of budget. Slightly off subject, but my daughter runs a V50 Estate as she believes Volvo are safer than other cars. But she insists on ISOFIX fastenings for her children's car seats. All was well until she had a third child, and needed 3 ISOFIX fittings.
The ONLY car found with 3 rear ISOFIX fastenings ( all children were under 8 yrs old and so front seat was not an option) was a Citroen C4.... Some 7 seater cars had 3 or more ISOFIX but at least one was in the 3rd row, and as my daughter said "Who given a choice would put their most precious cargo one foot or so from an impact point in a multicar pile up with little more than windscreen glass for protection??? I digress no more.... Cheers Bob |
