It happened to me after RES and defrosting for 10 minutes. I live in Northeast England and we have had some wet days and hard frosts over night but never had problems like this with MK 1 XC90 Which had different door seal material on the rear door tops.

Thanks for the replies - I'm glad I'm not alone. Has anyone approached their dealer about this?
Cheers Dave |

It's the same on the V70s, I had a P2 V70 and over the 9 years I had it never had a problem. Last year got a P3 V70 which is only 2 years old and I have had a the doors frozen shut several times. You would have thought for a Swedish company where it not unknown for it to be cold they could get this right? In fact the it's worse than that because they used to be able to do it but somehow have managed to design out a working solution. It's a bit like the tensioner on aux drive belt, never used to be a problem but for about the last 10 years they are unreliable and have gone through a number of redesign.

I've heard Vaseline is a good preventative measure on the seals.

My cars have been parked outside for 7 years and each autumn I use a silicone based spray (Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber Care - other products are available) on the door rubbers. I usually recoat every couple of months and have not had the doors stick during this time.

I agree with Suffolk boy, Vase line is a petroleum based product and will not do rubber any good at all.
I use Ambersil 40 which is used throughout the motor and aviation industry as a "go to" lubricant and release agent. I spray it onto a cloth then wipe over the rubbers, never had a problem with sticking or iced seals since starting to use it. Easily available on the Wibbly, Wobbly Web.

This stuff is highly recommended.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/361352016768 I used it last year on my car and the Van worked very well no mess at all. Was recommended by Volvo member a couple of years back.

Here in my snowy cold country this is what everyone does:
1. Coat all rubber door seals and mating surfaces with silicon. We get sponge applicators here, mine lives in the car. Do it in October. Don't forget the engine bay. 2. If you wash the car in Winter, always dry it thoroughly otherwise the remaining mostiure freezes things together 3. Carry deicer with you if you think melted snow will freeze over your doors - no amount of silicon will stop the ice forming on the outside 4. Clear all snow off the car (actually not allowed to drive with a snow covered car here) because then you reduce the chance of melted snow running over bodywork and doors and freezing 5. Seek cover when it snows 6. Never chip off the ice, use deicer or nature. If you chip the ice you can damage what is underneath (paint, plastic...) We've had sub zero 24x7 for over a week now.... brrr
