Smile Looking At Purchasing 1st XC90

Morning Forum readers.
First time forum user and unfortunately not entirely mechanically minded so do bear with me!
I am looking to purchase my 1st Volvo XC90 in the next few weeks and after reading the reviews on AutoTrader in regards to reliability I am a little perplexed in whether i am making the right decision?
I am a married father of 4 and our youngest son is only a few months old so we use the buggy regularly on our journeys as well as frequent shopping trips etc so boot space is a must.
Other potential contenders would be the Land rover Disco 2 or 3, Mitsubishi Shogun.
I am a fan of the XC90 as the appearance seems timeless and looks to have great comfort and safety features etc, as well as the practical side of things.
I am also aware that Discos are known for reoccurring faults and the Shoguns boot is occupied by the 3rd row when in use, which , given the amount of children we have, will be predominantly all of the time
What kind of things should I look out for when looking for and inspecting/test driving one of these vehicles?
Apologies if this seems excessive, and/or boring

Hi, welcome to the forum. Considering your other contenders, are you looking at a newer XC90 (i.e. up to 2 years old) or an older model. If the latter, you're better off asking in the other XC90 forum.
