xc90 2005 keyfob

Hi All,
I have changed the battery on my spare key fob, i the keyfob will open the doors and i can turn the ignition on but thats it the key just clicks, i think it needs to be reset? can anybody help, the old key if fine but would like to have a spare key that works. also when i use the spare key the seat moves to the position that was set to that key.cheers all

The key has three parts,
A physical blade, the button section which is remote opening and an immobiliser chip in the upper part that is read by the antenna around the ignition barrel.
sometimes you get a ‘floppy key’
It is easy to get a new shell and have the blade cut, you can swap the buttons over with one screw.
The chip is like a glass grain of rice embedded in the upper part of the fob.
Swapping it is a pain as it involves careful surgery.
If someone has changed the blade and buttons but not the chip you will get exactly the symptoms you have. Or they may have broken the chip trying to prise it out. (Don’t prise it).
If the other key works fine it is not a car problem, it’s a key problem.
Bad news is you can’t code old keys to the car.
It’s a new key and a dealer job.
Someone may have a price for that I think it is around £300.
I know not good news unless anyone else has any ideas?

I concur with everything binty said

It's part of the security of your car that 2nd hand keys cannot be coded to the car.

Only new keys, with the printed ID number that comes with the key, can be programmed.
