You win the bidding, you buy it. I’ve had time wasters turn up after winning items on eBay saying they didn’t want them, it’s not funny and £30-50 as a gesture makes no difference, the time and hassle is worth way more.

If you wanted to view it before bidding you should have done so, in any case it looks decent for the price. If you want a reliable car to get to work and are worried about a thirsty, 23 year old, £900 turbocharged car blowing up on you (which it likely wouldn’t) then get a lease deal on a brand new Kia or something with a warranty.

Apologies if that sounds negative but having been at the other side of this situation it’s really not funny for the seller. Buy it and enjoy it

Do the honourable thing. How would you like it if the tables were reversed. I imagine the seller will tell you where to place the £30.00.

Is this not what the seller wrote on eBay too? This was from an advert on the Volvo sellers page on the 12th November. Assuming it's the same seller / advert.... note the bit about rolling project.

Poor form to bid then pull out because you've decided it's a bit old / grubby / might break down... it's a 23 year old Volvo, that's to be expected and based on your other posts you were surprised at how dear they've gotten of late and had a budget of £1500 and won this for under a grand?

Think you need to be asking more "Is a Volvo 850 T5 the car for me?" and not "Is this Volvo 850 T5 for me?"

Yup, £12million. Not really, i'll take offers or swaps.

1995 Volvo 850 T5 SE 2.3 Turbo Manual

MOTd, running and driving but in need of some love.

On the V5 this car states 850 T5 SE 2319cc.

1 of 15 manual 850 T5 SE’s around today, see chart below.

MOT until April 2019. 145,000 miles but odometer not working.

Red with Cream Leather. Heated Seats etc inside.

Rough and ready inside and out. Drives OK.

Still very fast. Tyres all OK. Viewing recommended.

Rolling project, use it as it is or spares.

Collection from Bromsgrove or can be delivered

I would be surprised if the op goes through with this but hope he does as it’s the right thing to do.

I feel sorry for the poor eBay person.

Buy a project at 23 years of age then ask if it might break down. Yes, it probably will won’t it.

A good scrub up and it if it runs fine engine and box wise, it would a great work horse for someone.
It's the best combination in one of these.. the T5 engine with manual box.
My one is the most useful and versatile car I've ever owned hands down.
Get it bought lol !!

Although all the comments were sort of negative haha.

But i am hoping its a good one really do, as the last one i bought blew up and just put me in a position not able to get to work ect.

Anyway as mentioned if it's not what I like then i will give the seller some cash. As i stated earlier ( £30 - £50 which should cover the eBay fee more than enough)
Give it a good clean and some TLC and I bet you will like the car. Tremendous engine. Do the decent thing and get on with it and let us know in a few weeks how you are getting on with the car.

Get stuck into it. I recently bought a similar car, but an Auto with a slightly nicer interior. If anything, my paintwork was worse than yours. Here's what a day with a machine polisher does for it:

Still lots of work to do, but I've stage zero'd it (PCV was a bit of an ar*e to do) and it's ok to look at, which is motivation in itself.

A thorough approach to maintenance to get everything on the engine back into good working order. Replacement of the entire PCV system, all fluids, all filters, all vacuum hoses, all ignition components.
