My 2008 XC70 Sport needed two side windows replaced at once: NSL passenger door and OSR rear (cargo area) - very strange.
Autoglass agreed to do them in one call-out with only one excess charge (with genuine Volvo glass) even though they couldn’t understand how it could have happened as one incident - and neither could I - except possibly vandalism but one was a tiny corner chip, the other a crack down the middle - and the car had the Security Pack with all-round toughened, laminated glass...!

Coincidentally, my work colleague was having his windscreen replaced today by Autoglass. I asked them if they could provide a genuine Volvo screen and they said they could if I asked for it. He said they don't usually make a fuss if it is less than three years old.

I also asked about calibration of all of the sensors and he suggested they could do it by driving it down the road with a "box of tricks" plugged in.

I think I'm happy to let Autoglass replace the screen, what's the feeling on getting them to calibrate rather than the dealer?

I got mine done by the dealer for reassurance.

We had an Avensis on hire and it needed a new screen. It had similar camera/radar kit to the Volvo. We took it to the local Autoglass depot and they fitted the screen but said that the car had to be taken to the nearest Autoglass depot which had the calibration equipment. We are in Scunthorpe and the car had to go to Derby depot for the calibration!

I guess as with anything in life it just depends on which individual you get and how good they are and what equipment they have.

about a year or 18 months ago volvo made an agreement with the major windscreen companies to carry out calibration after the glass had been fitted .

Same here, 24 cars and for a while did 25K a year.
I only have had one stone chip repair, and that was my son's fault throwing a stone at the car FFS!

My previous car was a VW Touareg and 2 years ago a stone flew up and cracked the screen (car was 2 years old at the time). Insured with Aviva who use Autoglass. I spoke to Aviva and AG and both agreed a new screen was the way to go. I told AG I had OCD with my cars. The fitter arrived and was first class, he reassured me he could do the job with no issues and replace the glass with no damage and i Would not know it had been done. He was happy for me to watch while he did it and have to say they were first rate and he knew what he was doing and the job was perfect. Thing that stuck in my mind was how he actually praised his employer for providing the correct equipment for the job and not rushing him. Struck me he def had the experience and equipment to do this job which is waht he does all day where as the dealer may only do a few a year so will be AG for me again if unfortunate enough to require another screeen.

Autoglass was the same for me, he was excellent, even sorted out the rattle in the housing on the screen and told me why it was.

But the OP is concerned about the glass being fitted by AG, and as I said I got AG to fit an original screen, not there replacement screen

Another reason I wanted an original is because of markings, when it came to selling the car if someone spots that the screen replaced they may assume that it was due to an accident etc. and use that to push price down or worse still not buy it.
