Default new owner of 2013 se lux nav awd 2.4d 163 bhp

Hi, New to the forum and recently purchased this model, manual D4

What sort of mpg should it give?. The average in book is stated at 53.3mpg but after 2 fills, I am averaging 39mpg.
Driving it very lightly too so thought it would give more than that.
Is that normal for this model and engine,

thanks

What type of journeys are you doing? Loaded with weight at all?

I have an XC60 2013 SE LUX NAV AWD 2.4d 161 bhp owned since January 2018 & get an average 38 - 40 mpg when using all road types, therefore I've resigned myself to the fact that the stated 53.3mpg is never going to be attainable.
All the same taking into account the engine size, BHP & being an AWD I don't really think this is unreasonable fuel consumption.

I suspect to get the quoted figure you'd have to be dowing 56mph on a long motorway journey. I have a V60 D4 and on a long journey I average about 52mpg at 75-80 (on my private track ;-) ), and thats without the AWD and extra weight

Do any cars actually live up to their claimed Mpg figured I very much doubt it.

40mpg is pretty astounding from a 2 ton AWD vehicle.

My old A4 1.9 TDI quattro very rarely broke the 40mpg. It was permanent 4wd mind you but was likely half the weihjt.

Mixed driving and 50 % between just driver and kids in back. The engine never feels like im pushing it too hard so thought it would give more mpg. Maybe its just the weight and size of it that affects the mpg compared to an estate for example
