XC60 D3 2017 whistling sound from engine
Hello Guys,
Wanted to say hi to all forum members! Since summer I have strange noise with my D3 XC60 2017 (4 cylinder, automatic). There is some whistle sound from engine bay when rpm are rising and similar sound when they go down. At idle it doesn't whistle. Took it to the service but, surprise surprise, they found nothing... They said it's coming from turbo, but all is good... The thing is that this is not a turbo sound, it's more loud and I can also hear turbo (I'm quite sensitive to noises..) which sounds normal. Car drives ok, power, consumption all normal, but it drives me crazy. Any ideas? Is there some sensitive area in piping which can get loose or easily damaged and some air leaks? I was looking but didn't see any damage. The noise does not come from air filter box. Any help would be appreciated. Piotr |

Small update:
Engine still makes this noise, took the car to another service and they also didn't find anything. They checked intake. When I asked from where sound comes from, they were giving me some rubbish, that it comes from turbo... I've recorded the video today, car has only 44000 km. https://youtu.be/_NCTlLinBjo Does anybody has similar problem? Now my focus is on exhaust part, as sound is definitely coming from the bottom part of the engine, passenger side in LHD, so right side of the car. |

Hello Piciu
It seems that I have same problem.
I did not find solution. But I already know that reason is not turbo or inlet or outlet collectors. It was checked - at the end engine was started without any collectors and was still this noise. Piciu, did you find problem? |

do you guys already found the source of that issue?
I got the same issue but in my case it's only while accelerating and when I drop the pedal after accerlating. Tomorrow I will check if i have the same issue when the car is not running as shown in the videos |

I have the same issue. Suspected turbo as it varies with engine speed. Performance etc is not affected so my question is what are the consequences of not replacing the balance shaft and leaving it as it is? MY17 D4 VEA

Seems that I am the only UK owner to suffer from this as it is only Lithuanian, Polish and German owners that have issues.
Maybe nobody drives with their windows open any more in the UK? |
