Electrical: Electric window not working driver's side

I have a V70. I left the drivers window open all night and it rained all night.Now I do not have any power to the lock, the mirror adjustment and the window ! There is power to all the other windows, the left mirror and the rest of the central locking. Checked all the fuses, even the unrelated ones. Now at a loss where to try next other than a main dealership (all still under lockdown ) HELP ...

Hi,

It sounds like water has got into either a shared power supply or shared earth return in the driver's door - probably in the umbilical that attaches it to the rest of the car. Try spraying lots of WD40 at the front the door jamb and inside the door cards - and leave it out to dry in this nice, sunny weather - it might fix itself once it dries out.

If that doesn't work then try posting in the V70 section (this is the 200 series area - older cars with thick wires, solder and not much electronics) - someone there will probably have a better knowledge of things specific to the V70 and maybe a wiring diagram so you can work out the most likely places to start looking for the open circuit.

I had the same issue with my 1990 240 about a year ago. Fortunately the window always jammed in the up position (drivers door). i tried all the switch cleaning, swapping switches etc etc. One trick was to get a hammer inside the door and tap the motor that worked for about two days. Another trick was to loosen all the regulator bolts and the window stops and reset every thing as it seem to be out of square some how, that worked for ages then everything stopped again. I had previously checked electrics and every thing was ok there.

I even squirted WD40 into the end of the motor after removing the white nylon plug, that worked for a while. Eventually I struggled and got lots of grazed wrists and cuts, but finally removed the motor with the window still in the up position. Once out of the door I dismantled the motor, had to drill out rivets but inside was as dry as a bone, soaked the mechanical bits in petrol overnight, then re greased the cog and mechanism, self tapped the plate back on the motor. Re assembled and adjusted the regulator and hey presto has worked like a dream ever since (it is also faster than the passenger window, some time I will get round to doing the passenger door) I also regularly silicone spray the window channels, a bit messy but seams to keep them moving free. Hope this helps.

That's a good point. They gradually get tighter and tighter, and more and more of a strain on the motor and mechanism.

On the 240 the motor can be removed- taken apart & serviced: ~ if you do a search you will find further notes- it is a good old-fashioned nut/bolts item so worth doing, could be water entering the cogs and if so a good clean & grease will see it working.

But is the V70 the same?

When I dismantled mine -see later post, I dont think its that complicated, there is an adjustable metal stop for up and down on the arm of the regulator, dont forget this is 80s tech and basic. the tensioning spring is attached to the regulator and removing the motor doesnt affect the spring.
