240 Volvo front wheel bearing rubber seal.
Hi everyone, hope someone can help, just replacing the front wheel bearings and I don't know which way round the seal goes.It is flat one side and beveled the other. Thanks Mike.

Hi,
I've fitted a few and normally fit the flat side on the stub axle so that the bevelled side faces the bearing to stop the grease spreading out towards the brake disc. Scott |

I've always assumed that the plain flat side of a seal faces away from the bearing, with the side that is cut away with the spring inside facing the source of the grease or oil.
I image the pressure of the lubricant trying to escape pressing the seal lip outwards, and the spring tightening it round the shaft to prevent escape that way. |

Which way does a bearing seal go?
Understanding Wheel Bearing Seals. A seal must always be installed so that the sealing lip is facing the fluid to be sealed. This is because the lip is made so that pressure applied to it from the “wet” side of the seal will tend to increase the pressure the lip applies to the shaft. |
