Default S80 No Start (Continued)

The scenario is this. S80 Executive rescued from the crusher with frontal damage but no airbag activation.

Car had stood without battery for 3 years plus. After umpteen hours of work replacing the front end the vehicle will not start. Vida-Dice showed a transponder error and that was that.

Fitted replacement key, key switch, ECU and main fuse/relay carrier, all matching numbers, from an S60 with same engine and gearbox.

Transponder error disappeared from DIM but still shows on Vida. Vida is reluctant to let me clear transponder error?

CEM has not been changed. Before and after changes Vida recognises the keys as Key 1 but no cranking.

Reluctant to go to the main stealers as the cost of transporting the car plus key/software charge is over my budget.

Question is this. Where are the key codes held, ECU or CEM or should I just retire and buy a bicycle?

You cannot just swap the ECM or the CEM even with the same numbers. You need to have them reprogrammed. And the immobilizer message after long term car storage, is usually a corrupted software - it's a pretty common problem, so reprogramming is needed - you were better going to Volvo from the start and hope they were willing to reprogram (instead of suggesting replacing modules)
