Well no, not really! Most of us could have told them this.

Speed Cameras in London?
Thats a joke isnt it?

The last time I was there the only things likely to be caught speeding were the bike couriers! The rest of us rarely got out of first gear.

Wonder if there any conspiracy theorists on here that may think they are for security and surveillance?

No, they are already in place. Just look for the small black cameras. They are the ANP cameras dotted around everywhere. Then there are the larger metropolitan police surveillance ones as well as all the government office mounted cctv and the private company ones. The UK has more cctv coverage than ANY other country (including the US and Russia).

Don't worry. These are bound to be delivered years late, at twice the original cost and then not work.

Anyone who believes that these spy cameras are to do with road safety is naïve in the extreme; the locations selected make it patently obvious that the majority have one purpose - revenue generation......

Had the cameras been installed in places where GENUINE safety concerns existed I would be less cynical; the only solution to poor driving is a visible specialist police presence who will educate and advise motorists and cyclists for minor infractions, and prosecute dangerous driving by all types of road users.

I'll probably get bludgeoned by the pedal-powered fraternity for this, but I'm firmly of the belief that cyclists should be licensed, insured, and carry a unique identifier so that riders who break the law, cause damage to vehicles while passing through static traffic etc. can be dealt with in the same way as if a car driver would be.......

I'll await the backlash for this posting!

like the computerised MOT system, all the computers were bought in 1995 and put in storage for YEARS until it all came on line .. Most MOT stations are still using 1995 computers and phone modems .
They are going Web based soon though ..

Not from me!
Last time I was in London, I saw a cyclist getting a tow from a car by hanging on to a mirror!
Pigeons used to be considered a menace, think the cycle couriers have taken their place.
