Default Help needed by new V70 Owner

First post on this part of the forum, but I’ve hopped from a 940 estate, to a 960 estate, an XC90 and now (thanks to an over-eager Range Rover rear-ending me) I’ve just bought a 2009 V70 2.0 SE estate.

https://www.cargurus.co.uk/Cars/inve...ting=131422816

Driving it for an hour or so has allowed the usual used car teething troubles to surface, so I have a couple of questions:

1. It only has one key (a ‘push-into-the-dash' type) – I was expecting a new one to cost around £150 based on other posts around the forums, but just got quote of £313 incl. VAT. Is this exorbitant or the going rate now?

2. I have a squeak that’s coming from the offside rear. I can just about make it sound when the car is stationary and I rock it, but when driving around it’s a more constant chattering sound, like dry metal rubbing together. Naturally it didn’t do this during the test drive or for the first hour of driving, so I’m presuming it’s just a question of finding it and greasing/oiling? I *think* it may just be the suspension spring rubbing against something but someone else may have had this before and be able to pinpoint it.

3. A slightly rattling Aircon fan – I knew about this before I bought, but I was wondering how easy it was to get to it? Which leads me onto…

4. Maintenance manuals – is the Haynes one worth buying or are the diesels too different from the petrol versions to be worth it?

Yes, of course it's probably that. Makes sense now you say it. Thankfully the car has a three month warranty and suspension bushes are covered on it.

Make sure they do 4 wheel alignment when fitted......

No 4 on your list.......if as it seems you do like Volvo's Vida Dice is not only a diagnostic code reader...it's a "workshop manual" and once you find your way round it is worth the money. But you need a laptop to run it on. Plenty on this forum regarding it, so have a read up.
Also cheshired5 a member on here, sells the Vida Dice with laptop.
Hope this helps.....................

Vida is the software (laptop) and Dice is the connecting gizmo between the laptop and your obd diagnostic port in the car. You don't need to be connected to the car for the "workshop manual".

I have a Haynes, picked up for about £10, amazon warehouse deal I think. It is really good, I got it mainly for torque settings, basic servicing and how to take trim apart. I don't really need vida/dice although from stuff I've seen it is very clear and does give part numbers I believe.

The diagnostic techniques used for cars of the pre-electronic age struggle to comprehend the workings of ECUs and multiplex systems. I'd say that, even if you never touch the workings of your car and put it entirely in the hands of a garage, everyone can benefit from a VIDA/DiCE, even if it's just knowing what it is that you need to instruct the garage to do to repair your car.
