Default Wrong driveshaft

Recently, alarmed by a grinding noize from a driver side wheel area, I removed the wheel and spotted that the gator on the driveshaft gearbox side is torn.

Long story short, I'm forced to replace the whole driveshaft but it seems I can't get the correct one.

Ordered one from a shop, took it to my local garage and they say it doesn't fit. Reluctantly I've agreed for the garage to order one and the same thing happened, it doesn't fit.

The mechanic is saying that the shaft should be without the ring/sensor and the two that we ordered came with the silver ring.

Could you help me out to order the correct one, please?

I bought my 2007 S80 2.4 D in March. I've had a fair bit of work done on the car since I've owned it, but I think its good maintenance & with it having 102,000 miles, some of the major items were more or less due anyway. Here's what I've had done:

-Oil changed with a new oil filter (Basic service at a Volvo Independent Specialist, as it had a full service in 2018 at a Volvo main dealer).
-Coolant changed (Volvo specialist)
-Power Steering fluid replaced (Done myself)
-Transmission fluid flushed & replaced (Volvo specialist)
-Software update for gearbox (Volvo specialist)
-Timing belt replaced (Volvo specialist)
-Auxilliary belt replaced, A/C belt replaced with a new tensioner (Done this weekend with genuine Volvo parts)
-Rear Trailing arm bushes replaced (Volvo specialist)
-Four wheel Hunter alignment (Kwik Fit)
-Four new tyres
-Brake booster/servo replaced (Replaced by a Volvo Specialist, as the original one was hissing & you could hear it inside the car)
-New Volvo wiper blades
-New halogen bulbs for the front lights. I think the bulbs are known as being "Ice white", or something like that. Basically, they look like Xenon's, but they aren't. The light from the original bulbs wasn't very good, so I changed them myself.
- New Yuassa battery purchased from Halfords that come with a five year warranty

Today: aircon regassed (now -20c in vents!!), touched up paint chips in rear bumper and polished out some light scratches down the flanks, replaced 12v socket in centre console with a twin USB socket.

Kev, as someone who lives in Manchester as well, would you mind sharing the details of your Volvo independent specialist please? Feel free to DM me if you prefer. I also have a 2007 2.4 D5, and I'm going to need a transmission flush for sure, and I like the idea of the other bit's of work he did to yours too. Cheers, Arnold.

I think my car could do with a regas. Did you use one of those tins that you can buy in places like Halford's?

Replaced smashed indicator-in wing-mirror lens with a non Volvo part. It looks exactly the same as the real thing and cost half the price delivered from China. The original was made in the UK so heaven help us after Brexit when the Chinese are going to be all over us!

Default Update

Well, it's been a busy few weeks of finally getting stuff done to the XC70.
  • Rear windows tinted with 20% film and a lighter 33% handcut sunstrip added to the windscreen.
  • Dealer fitted the Volvo detachable towbar & electrics along with the software activation for the...
  • Genuine Volvo Front & Rear Reversing Cameras fitted myself.
Hardest task was feeding the camera cables into the cabin through the bulkhead rubbers already occupied with other cables.
  • Whilst the centre console was out I replaced the black plastic cupholder roller blind cover with a mesh aluminium one to match the dash trim.
  • Then added 2 additional USB sockets. One in the cupholder across from the 12V socket and the 2nd one down next to the drivers leg on the tunnel console.
  • And finally replaced the gear shifter & gaiter with an R-Design set to match the R-Design steering wheel with paddleshifters and pedals.
  • Installed the cargo hooks and organiser to the boot.
Next jobs still on the list:
  • Fit the 2nd hand Volvo tailgate spoiler.
  • Fit the CROSS COUNTRY decal to the tailgate.
  • Fit stainless steel rear bumper guard trim.
  • Replace the corroded D4 AWD badges with new style ones.
  • Fit the Volvo aluminium engine undershield.
  • Tweak around with the interior lighting. Have got 4000k LED bulbs fitted which are just a bit too bright/harsh for the interior. Need to get to a 3-3500k softer colouring.
  • Debate whether to replace the 18" Pan alloys with a newly acquired set of 19" Erakir alloys in black/silver.
Do I get all-season tyres for these as I have at the mo' or go back to rotating & storing a set of winter & summer tyres twice a year?
  • Perhaps black out the V O L V O panel on the tailgate below the glass?
  • Get the metal window trim polished to remove the milkiness from previous owner using TFR at cheap car washes.
  • Polestar Optimisation!
