Default Auxiliary belt

Hi all,

I've noticed that my car (2007 S80 2.4 D 163bhp) is squeaking on cold start up in the morning, particularly if it has been raining or its damp outside.

Its definitely the auxiliary belt that's making the usual chirping/squeaking sound when they wear. It stops after the car has been running for a short while, but its just annoying.

Can anyone give me an idea as to how much the auxiliary belt & tensioner are & if there's a kit I can buy with all that's required to do the job (Genuine parts only)? Is there more than one belt like on some vehicles, i.e. One for air conditioning & another for the alternator etc.

I've read on here somewhere that if the auxiliary belt snaps, it can put your timing out & I don't want that to happen!

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you.

If you're doing the Aux., you may want to do a Full Monty (appreciate yours is a Euro 4, so do check compatibility as this is for my Euro 3, but posting to give an idea of cost). Good supplier, Volvo Main Dealer:

Most likely is the alternator clutch pulley but if the belts are all original, you're 2 years overdue to have aux and timing belts and pulleys changed too.

Expect to pay around £500 for everything fitted if using genuine parts.

Thanks for the replies. I've had the timing belt replaced at a local independent Volvo specialist in March this year, so that's one job less. I didn't get the water pump replaced, as I was told that these don't give much trouble & the timing belt is more important.

So I need the auxillery belt(s)? (Is there more than one)? & tensioner replacing. Are there any kits just for these parts (Without timing & water pump, just auxillery belt(s) & tensioner), as opposed to buying individual parts?

Wise move with the water pump if it's the original Volvo one.
Yes aux belt kits are available for reasonable prices from main dealers who sell on eBay.
Your model year will probably also need a separate AC belt.

When I do my full monty changes I'll be on 165k or so, and I will chuck in a water pump change too, with the Volvo pump, just because why not as that tiny little extra piece of reassurance in as you say, a £500 or so bill.

I think I may have watched one of your YouTube guides when you were working on your car. Is changing the aux belt on the S80 a similar process? Great videos by the way! Is there an interval for changing the original water pump?

I have a D5244T whereas yours will be most likely a D5244T4 but yes, my auxiliary and timing belt videos will give you a fair idea of the job involved though not everything in detail.

I did my second timing belt change at around 177000 miles and still didn't change the water pump.
That was 4 years ago and still no issues.

Is the aux belt recommended replacement interval every 10 years, or 108,000 miles like the timing?
