What's the purpose of the tcv? Modulating turbo pressure to "shape" the torque curve ?

Once over 1500rpm, vacuum is diverted to the boost solenoid which in turn controls how much vacuum the turbo actuator receives. ......or I could be wrong so follow the pipes.

It should clip onto the air filter box. If it's held on with a cable tie, the clip may have broke, or it may not be a Volvo valve. Loads of other marques use exactly the same valve, so nothing to worry about there.

My 2.0t was running like a bag of spanners (when it kicked down it didn't know whether to accelerate or surrender), I found a replacement boost solenoid/tcv on a dead T5 for £10, swapped it over, big improvement.
Hoses are only cheap, the red marked one takes the pressure from your turbo, the yellow one feeds it to the wastegate actuator, and the blue one feeds the wasted stuff back into your air intake just before the PCP nipple. If the solenoid or hoses are knackered it will affect the turbo's performance, they're only £50 new from Volvo, I'll be changing my replacement and hoses out for new ones next time I service the car jut for peace of mind and bhp. If there's crud in there then it must be coming either from the turbo (bad) or PCP nipple (routine service is to clean/replace the PCV system and PCP nipple). |
