Hmm, ive been having this frothing, not as light steering AND whining ... but mainly when warm. never have the whine / hissing sound when cold. However, the steering doesnt quite feel right when cold either, noticebly stiffer (can just about turn with 1 hand when its at its worst) when car has had a good run.
The L shaped pipe, it was attached when I checked, I gave it a wiggle and it fell off.. not sure if the brass pipe was too far in/ out.. the Pump has already been replaced.. no visible signs of leaking .. and Ideas ? I'm planning on changing the fluid tomorrow |

I've been having groaning noises from the steering on my V70 for quite a while, especially at low speed and gradually getting louder over time. Checked the reservoir and "L" shaped plastic pipe was missing. Got it replaced and the steering is silent and feels like new, so thanks dave3384.

noisy power steering
Fantastic information on the forum, mine has been gradually worse when hot-whining noise especially when moving slowly maneuvering/parking
checked in the reservoir and frothing the return pipe seemed to be in place but signs of bubbles down the side of it. Just touched it with a screwdriver and it fell off so removed the reservoir and found the brass insert on the return pipe end stuck out about 1/2" - refitted pipe inside then gently tapped the brass bit back in and put all back together and wahey! Had feared the worst-steering rack/pump-just goes to show don't do anything till you've trawled the forum where there is a mine of information from people who have experienced the same problems. Many thanks too all who contributed to this thread you're stars !!!!! |

Just got a P-plate 850 T5 and I'm having this exact issue.
Will go check my reservoir later today and hopefully be able to fix it! Thanks in advance for the info! |

Looks like it may just be low fluid level causing the issue.
Have cleaned the area so I can check for any fresh leaking from a worn cap seal. Just need to source some of the power steering fluid for a '96 850 T5. I think it needs the red stuff? Any suggestions on a good place to buy? Thanks in advance. |
