They've had to kill off the 5-pot because of emissions restrictions...a ton of engines have disappeared this year from various manufacturers. I don't know the details, but I assume it's related to Euro5 coming into force.
That would be a potential problem with the Polestar car... I doubt there's pressure from Ford. cheers James

I was at the stealers the other day and there was a MY10 Volvo there with D5 on the back of it. I asked the sales bloke that I thought the D5 was ditched and his reply was that it had but has now come back after re-development.......

The D4 is only 3 bhp down on the old D5 C30 and more economical with similar performance .

If not the UK, then where?
I also watched the Top Ger show about the PCP. What I find interesting is the disheartenment felt by so many by not producing this car. Why can't American cars with engines this small make that much HP? In American if you want a car that pushes 400HP you have to purchase a V-8 Camaro, or Dodge Charger/Challenger, or something exotic. There is nothing here that is as small as a 2.5L that makes near that mark.
I know that if Volvo cars here in American made 3/4 that HP, they would sell like hotcakes. Generally speaking Volvo American is known for safety, definately not speed and performance. It would take thousands of dollars and much knowledge of CPU's to make that much HP come out of a 2.5L here. I hope Volvo pays attention to these blogs and decides to make, produce and sell the PCP here in America. Then we can have something to brag about finally. |
