Tyres For XC70 ?
I have just purchased a 2008 XC70. I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on tyre selection ? Is it best to use separate winter tyres or can someone recommend a good all year tyre. Any advice would be appreciated.

2008? Is that Gen3 model you have or is it P2?
If its Gen3 your in wrong place. I'd be interesed in this thread if it was P2 XC as i'm running Pirelli (something or others) all seasons.. Last edited by 4candles; Dec 4th, 2015 at 22:24. |

I work for Pirelli and see the technology that goes into them. I have just fitted some 225/45/17 94 XL W Cinturato All season on a P2 2005 plate V70. A very good tyre.

Mine appear to be fitted with Pirelli zotto zero winters on the back and Scorpion verde all seasons on the front. They seem a bit noisy at speed, but of course it may be a bearing starting its death roll ...(Pardon the pun)

Sorry no discounts, we get 8 vouchers a year and only this year they decided to make the reduction in the cost of the tyre by 40%. But the tyres we make have some of the tightest quality limits you will find.

If you don't mind the expense, a set of used wheels with winter tires and a second set of summer/all season tires is the safest choice and the most economical in the long term.
Keep in mind that winter tires should not be driven at temperatures above 5-10C or the gum will permanently harden. Most people have two sets of tires/wheels here in Canada and I can tell it is not much more expensive and it gives complete peace of mind in winter. Basically, you are just paying more for a set of used wheels. Having both winter and summer tires means each of this set will last twice as many years, compared with wearing a single set of all season tires all year long.

The winter tire rubber has a tendency to harden if driven on hot weather. Then the tire will have less grip in winter conditions.
