Knocked my fuel flap off
I knocked my fuel flap off while refuelling on the motorway to Dublin. Can this be refitted or do I have to buy a new hinge. The metal clip is still attached to the flap. Many thanks Paul.

Hinge is probably broken. Repair improbable. New hinge is easy to fit. It comes with a new spring iirc.
Did the same myself - don't slam the fuel flap - it's not a microwave |

Cheers Brendan. Ebay then? I just brushed passed it at the pump and off it popped lol. Worst thing is its my fiancee's S60 not my C70 and what I saved in fuelling " down here" is now going to be spent putting it right!!

The hinge is flimsy. The tip it got was probably the straw that broke the camel's back.
I treat mine very gingerly now. |

Hopefully just the plastic bit that broke. Total cost is around £10 for a new hinge, and it takes 5 minutes to fit. Very easy job

you need to push the plastic rivets from the broken original into the panel, the bits cannot be recovered.

I seem to recall making a mess of or losing one of the new rivets and recovering some or all of an old one that happened to fall out on the floor. In retrospect I could have recovered them before they fell into the abyss of the wheel arch if I had known I was going to mess up.

I did exactly the same thing last week with my XC60.
but the fuel cap just clipped back on to the hinge and it seems ok. Iain

A busted fuel flap hinge was one of the reasons my car was put up for sale.
I too "over-pushed" a mounting rivet into the body panel. Fortunately I had nails of the same wire stock size. These rivets do not have heads. They're wee rods. I just cut to the length I needed and voila' instant hinge rivets. |
