I guess I'm lucky engine wise, despite being high mileage now, the compression test before the remap showed 3/4 cylinders were only 3psi down from what they were when it rolled off the line a few years back and the third cylinder (always burns the hottest apparently) was only 5psi down. It hasn't used a drop of oil in nearly a month so seems like it's a good'n.

Still, a fully forged rebuild is on the cards in the near future as a precaution.

I've yet to hear of an M56 box fail on anyone...
A compression test only tells you about ring wear and valve seating, it does not give any information about the probability of an actual component failure (A used oil analysis can give more information in that respect).
The most likely components to fail after tuning are the turbo, head gasket or clutch and total mileage is a factor in their condition.
I agree the M56 box seems good, as the reported failures seem to be mostly due to lack of oil etc.

In economic terms if low mileage T4's are more expensive, it might well make sense to buy one that has suffered a main block failure (Like a broken cam belt), if the failed parts were going to be upgraded anyway. Same thinking might apply to buying one with a failed clutch.

Yes, it was clean kieran, but red is a cr@p colour to keep bright and unfaded..
I would say no if he offered it too me, its a s40, mines a 150 mph dog carrying v40 machine! lol.
I miss my 1.9D, just enough poke, much cheaper to run.. and seem to handle better. T4's are fun, but there's to much power at the front wheels(16's) for it to handle, I am begining to miss rwd...
