Default Replacement Coil

Well 2020 hasn't finished giving me grief...

Went to pop over to check on the mother-in law and after a few miles the car died... RAC came out and is 99% certain it's the coil that's blown. Car was towed home and I've tried to search for a replacement to order. But it seems that there are loads to choose from (inputting the reg on one site didn't help!)

From what I can gather the coil comes with its module all bolted to one plate - the part looks like this

But I gather the connectors to the module, and the module is dependent on the variant of V70... so I'm not sure which one to order. One site suggest the OEM part number is 1275174 - but that throws up loads of variants

Car is a 1999 (S plate) 2.5 petrol manual 5 speed non turbo 10v.

Can anyone advise what I need to check to confirm the correct part, and a UK online supplier... Need this ASAP as the MOT runs out 1-1-21 !!

With the part removed I found a number stamped to the metal support 0221601012 - so hopefully that helps with the identification ?

Hi Malcolm

Googling for 0221601012 (which I think is a Bosch number) leads me to FCP

https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/vol...70-v70-1275174

which tells you that the Volvo part number is 1275174

Then I would go to https://www.volvopartswebstore.com/ and search for 1275174

then follow the link to "What this fits" which gives me

Skandix lists that part as well.

So that should help you find a coil (eg on ebay). I have a used one I could put in the post tomorrow if you want.

Just a small update, should anyone else find themselves in a similar situation.

Having spent most of yesterday gathering telephone numbers etc and in conversation with Steve I spent an hour or so on the phone this morning trying to source one of these parts. Things wouldn't have been that bad if it hadn't have been the Christmas holiday period, which puts a strain on logistics.

The information I was given, was that there is a very good chance that this part will be phased out of Europarts stock once the remaining handful have been sold. The last few they have are scattered far and wide from Cornwall to Scotland, so whilst they can get them, the logistics could mean I'm waiting a couple of weeks given the closure for New Years. This seems to be the case with most of the companies I contacted... It was either in stock at one of their other branches which don't do mail order, or it would need to be ordered in and the head office is closed so no idea of availability or delivery.

On this occasion Steve is sorting me out with a spare that he has acquired, and if all goes to plan could mean the car is mobile again in time for its MOT (I don't have any off road parking, so technically would be committing an offence if it's parked on the road without one - hence the urgency !). But reading between the lines it would seem that these parts new are becoming harder and harder to find given the age of the cars they fit, and that they are not a high turnover item. From the looks of the one I took off the car it's the original part, so it's almost 22 years old, and 165,000 miles.... so quite possible that anyone would only ever need to replace this part once in the lifespan of the car !

What a wonderful community this forum is.

Given the issue I had with logistics in trying to get hold of one of these modules in time so my MOT doesn't expire before testing Steve offered me a replacement from a car he had (presumably breaking) for a decent price. He agreed to take it to his main post office and post it special delivery at my request, and pleased to say the part arrived around 11am this morning. 10 minutes later it was fitted and the car is running once more.

I still have the 3rd party part on order from Europarts and will keep that as a spare as I have no idea how old the part Steve has sent is, and as it will only cost me £12.20 seems a shame not to.

So I just like to give Steve a big thank you for helping me out - It means a lot - Thanks mate
