Flooded drivers side passenger footwell
Hello All.
I am writing here on behalf of my elderly Father who owns a V70 D5. Whilst out on a recent Christmas family outing I noticed a gushing water sound coming from the B Pillar when the car quickly pulls away or comes to a sudden stop. With this I checked the footwell and it was soaking wet. Please can anyone tell me if this can be solved and if so how? Or will it need a vist to the garage? Kind regards, |

Water ingress
I had similar problem with my 2011 XC60 and had the windscreen replaced. Stopped the footwell problem. Also if your car has a sunroof check the drainage holes aren’t blocked. (YouTube videos show this). However, I think I still have water coming in somewhere, as I suspect it’s affecting the remote locking sensors.

Heater matrix seals
Quote:
If it does, then it is due to the antifreeze. Replacing these seals is realtively easy but time consumming as you will have to release the matrix unless you have smallish hands in which case you may be able to get your fingers around the hose ends to release and replac them without removing the matrix.

The way I`m reading this is the `B` Pillar , ie where the seat belt is, and water is behind the driver seat in the passenger footwell .
If there is a sunroof then the drains for this are blocked . Water is getting in from the roof gulley via the roofrail mounts . Plenty of posts in this forum on either . May be an issue with the door seal or the door is filling with water due to blocked drains but either is not very common . |

Hello and thank you all for your replies.
Yes, the B Pillar is the pillar between the driver and rear passenger. That is where we can hear the swishing of water. The rear passenger footwell is really wet. The car doesn't have a sunroof. |

Hi.
If you have the roof rails then i would seriously suggest looking at re-sealing the mounting points .
If you are hearing the gushing sound at around head height then the water must be from the roof . Do you have anything mounted on the roof such as a shark-fin aerial or rear spoiler . These would also need looking at. If you are hearing the water at ankle height check around the door seals , locks and bump cappings . |

Thank you.
Yes he does have a shark fin arial as well as rails. I think it will be a garage visit for him as I don't think he is up to taking apart various items on his Volvo. Thanks |

Drains on Sunroof
Do you have a Sunroof?
I had a similar issue and used net curtain wires to rod the drains from the sun-roof that went down to the roof pilars, either side of the windscreen. Worked for me. Clean them most years now, just to be safe. Other than that IDK how the passenger footwell was so wet. It's been fine for a couple of years now.

No, I have already answered that my Father doesn't have a sunroof in his Volvo, Balistaff.
Thanks. |
