CD changer
Hello all,
I've just got a 960 CD estate, but the CD changer is not there, just the cables and plugs under the floor. Has anybody got a changer to sell. I understand it is an Alpine make. Cheers Trevor |

RE: CD changer
The Alpine CHM-S630 and CHM-S620 changers will require a different cable and also an adaptor unit. The adaptor unit retails at about £55-£60. I don't know what the retail cost of the cable is.
You could always wait a few days and then have a look on eBay. I say 'wait a few days' because I (and no doubt several others) am interested in the ones listed there at present.:D

RE: CD changer
Thanks for your reply. You have me a bit confused. The reference number on the radio in the car is SC-801, which is the original fitted by Volvo. Where do your reference numbers come from ? and why would I need a different cable ?
Would it not be possible to find a changer that will mate up to the equipment already in the car. |

RE: CD changer
Alpine may well make and supply the VOLVO original equipment radio sets etc but these are badged up with Volvo model numbers and badges.
Agreed the set in the car will probably be an SC-801 (radio and cassette but no CD as part of the unit). This would be coupled to a Volvo badged 6 cd changer (probably mounted in a luggage area floor well). The cable for this changer and the cable for either of the two ALPINE badged cd changers that I mentioned in the earlier post are different. The alpine badged units will require an adaptor to marry up to the SC-801 head unit. I have gone through this process recently (and am now repeating it for yet another 760 GLE). There are presently available on eBay a number of VOLVO badged 6 cd changer units (used condition) some with cables and some without cables. There are also some claiming to be new VOLVO units but they are ALPINE badged units (some with the adaptor and some without). To marry up to the current equipment in the car without further ado you will need to get your hands on one of the VOLVO badged 6 cd changers.

Hard to tell just what you have got! For info nearly all the head units and changers are Alpine made whatever they are badged. The old 620 changer was replaced by the 630 but the long lead and the short interface to the head unit are compatible. If you want some expert advice contact ICD Ltd (In Car Developments) on 0121-502-0999 or look at their web site www.icd-ltd.com. They design and manufacture just about any interface combination there is. Their young man in customer services (Jason) has recently sorted a problem for me which required their technical bod doing a re-wire. Their customer service is brilliant. regards etc... |
